Safer Paraffin Cap |

Readymade’s winning entry in a competition sponsored by the Paraffin Safety Association of South Africa. The challenge was to design a safer paraffin-delivery system than the one currently being used. Readymade did extensive market research and found that paraffin is generally sold in 2 litre soft-drink bottles, which poses a danger to children who could mistake the toxic liquid for soft drinks. Moreover, Readymade found that distributors often over-filled the bottles as there is no guide on the bottle to indicate when the 2 litre mark has been reached. This is both dangerous and unprofitable. Acutely aware that paraffin buyers generally fall into the lower-income market, Readymade developed a simple cost-effective solution - a cap that makes the bottles safe, provides a fill line, cannot be removed and provides the user a handle to carry his or her purchase. In 2007, the safer paraffin cap earned Readymade a top nomination for an INDEX: AWARD, which recognises designs that substantially improve important aspects of human life worldwide.
